How Teeth Whitening Works
Posted by: | CommentsTeeth whitening are one of the most important aspects in the modern society. A bright smile not only enhances your personality, but it also helps you gain confidence. Enamel is the top-most layer present on the surface of the teeth which is semi-translucent in colour. Any cracks or erosions on this layer, leads to the stains or discoloration on the teeth.
All the whitening procedures available today use peroxide to treat these stains. The layer just below the enamel on the teeth is referred to as the dentin. To brighten the teeth, dentin has to be whitened. So to treat those stains on the dentin, some kind of peroxide solution is placed on the enamel. This solution would bleach the dentin completely and hence you would whiten your teeth. All the stained teeth, more often than not, lighten up to four or five shades, based on how stubborn the stains were.
If the stains or the discolorations are not severe, people commonly use the ‘in-home’ whitening procedures such as the bleaching solutions, teeth whitening tooth pastes and whitening strips. These are the cost-effective ways to deal with yellow teeth. However, if the stains are stubborn enough, then it would be suggestive to visit a dentist and take some advanced whitening treatments which include the use of bleaching gels or laser treatments. The ‘in-home’ treatments are convenient and cost-effective; however the solutions they provide are fairly temporary and there are strong chances of the stains appearing again.
